$1 per person per day was the rule of thumb I've heard.

We left $5 a day ($1 per person). Since I took care of my moms tips too, I left $2 a day for one person.

I always tip them, usually 1 or 2 dollars per day per person. I do those envelopes with a character and "thanks" on the outside....sometimes we get towel animals, sometimes not....but we tip nonetheless.

Some trip we tip $5 a day others nothing. The way I see it, sometimes, is they are getting a full salary unlike the wait staff. Most times I try to remember.

We have always been well taken care of everywhere we stayed, so since there's four of us we usually do $4-5. But we do try to clean up after ourselves too.

$1 per person per day. We leave it daily in case the mousekeeper changes. When saying on rented DVC points we only tip when we leave as they don't clean daily like a normal resort.

There is always a debate on if you should tip. Some don't because they do get paid about or over minimum wages (versus servers who get paid below and depend on the tips). Others tip. We tip since we tip the bellhop and he makes a full wage, etc. Plus it just seems right. My mom used to be a housekeeper at a hotel so I guess I have a different perspective. If you want to save the tip you can always just leave up your "do not disturb" sign the whole trip.

this question can cause a big debate i guess. but i cant imagine housekeeping (or mousekeeping as the case may be) getting too much over minimum wage. i know working at the bookstore, some people are pretty nice, will throw their cups in the trash can on the way out, and others leave not only their cups but candy and sandwich and donut bags and wrappers (all from other stores, even soda cans and bottles brought in) as well as dozens of magazines and books they take from the shelves and just leave there. so i can imagine the kind of junk left in hotel rooms that mousekeepers have to clean up. i try to keep the room fairly neat....bag up trash before i leave..stuff like that... so i figure it is worth a few dollars to let them know someone appreciates their hard work.

We always leave $5 per room, per day. Sometime we leave up the do not disturb sign every other day and save on tipping money a bit that way. Towels animals are just hit and miss. Some do them, some don't. We have always had great luck with the mousekeepers at FW and always got lots of towels figures there.
