We had one dining goal when we planned our January trip: EAT CHEAP! ;D DH was sent to WDW for a business trip so this was an unplanned, unbudgeted trip. We only did two table service meals, brought our lunch with us some days, and did counter service meals the rest of the time. It was great to not have our park time controlled by ADRs so I think it made this trip much less stressful. We also ate at less expensive restaurants that really aren't a great deal with the dining plan, but are great when paying out of pocket!
Table Service
The Plaza Restaurant - This is a place I have always wanted to try, but it is one of those restaurants that isn't a great way to use the dining plan. We were seated promptly and served drinks immediately. The service was fantastic! DH's company was paying for his meals and the waitress was great about separting out our checks. I ordered the Cheesesteak with broccoli slaw and DH order the Reuben with broccoli slaw. The food was fantastic and exceeded my expectations! The girls loved their meals (including the tomato soup - I stole a bite and it was awesome!) especially the Mickeylodeon dessert. DH ordered the Brownie sundae and between the two of us we couldn't finish it - it was huge! Overall, I am so glad that we finally made it here and definitely plan to eat there again. Great food, great service, and great prices (for Disney! ).
Via Napoli - We had a stellar meal here. We ordered the "Family Style House salad, a large pepperoni pizza, and the Zeppole for dessert, and it was a perfect amount of food for our family. The pizza here was really good, and I especially loved how delicious and crunchy the pepperoni was after coming out of the oven. The atmosphere here was so much fun and the wait staff was very friendly. The Zeppoles were AMAZING! I could have probably finished the whole baskets, but limited myself. Definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good pizza at Disney.
Counter Service
Casey's - What can you say? Hot dogs? GOOD! French Fries? GOOD? Toppings bar? GOOD!!!! I love sitting outside in the sunshine and enjoying a delicious hot dog from here.
Pizzafari - We did Animal Kingdom without H so we didn't have a huge lunch that day. The girls shared a cheese pizza, and I had the Antipasto Salad. I had not tried that salad before, and it was really good. It had mozzarella balls, peppers, marinated artichoke hearts, kalamata olives, and delicious bits of Italian deli meats. Very good, although probably not low calorie like I was hoping!
Starring Rolls - I decided to catch a quick lunch here. The girls had PB and J sandwiches, and I had the Black Forest Ham sandwich with an apple. We then split a red velvet cupcake (heaven!). The sandwich wedge was absolutely huge, and I could only eat about half of it. It had a delicious olive relish on it that was fantastic. This is probably the best counter service meal I have had at DHS. The deliciousness of the cupcake goes without saying. Those things are so good!
Fairfax Faire - DH was able to join us after lunch, and we ended up at Fairfax Faire for dinner. DH and I split the chicken and ribs combo while the girls nuggets from Rosie's. The combo was perfect for sharing. The beans and ribs were pretty tasty, but the chicken was really dry. Overall, not bad, but not especially memorable either.
Sunshine Seasons - I had the Rotisserie Chicken and DH had the Slow-Roasted Pork Chop from the Grill. The chicken was good and juicy although nothing to write home about. DH's porkchop was EXCELLENT, and I so wish I had order that instead. Definitely recommend that. He was nice enough to give me a few bites and to share the BBQ sauce that came with it. We had an apple flan thing for dessert that was pretty tasty.
La Cantina - The meal here was interrupted when youngest DD fell and smacked her head on a grate in front of the ordering area. I had to take her to the First Aid area to get ice on it so by the time I was actually able to eat, my food was cold and tasteless. Fortunately, DD suffered no permanent injuries and we have yet to make a vist to WDW without least one visit to first aid!
Pepper Market - We ordered pizza and a fruit salad from there one night to enjoy in the room. It was a pretty decent pizza although definitely not gourmet.
