I thought I would do a quick overview of our counter service meals for this trip.
Wolfgang Puck Express
We headed to Downtown Disney right after we arrived at POR and decided to eat lunch at WPE. We rarely make it to downtown Disney so we haven't tried many of the restaurants. I had the Pennette Bolgnese, DH had the Chopped Rotisserie Turkey Salad, and the girls split an adult portion of Chicken Tenders with fries.
This was a good meal although the pasta wasn't quite what I was expecting because it had peas in it. DH loved his salad and the girls enjoyed their chicken tenders. The portion sizes were huge, and DH and I could have easily split a meal and been fine. I only ate about 1/2 of my pasta.
We were on the dining plan so it didn't really matter, but this place was expensive! Three counter service meals with drinks was $65. We like that they have a waitstaff to bring your food to you and do drink refills. It's a nice touch.
We will definitely visit here again!
Restaurantosaurus
We went to the Animal Kingdom on Saturday. It literally rained every minute of the day (I forget how many inches, but it was an unusually large amount of rain). Our goal that day was to find someplace with indoor seating and Restaurantosaurus was the closest at lunchtime. I had been looking forward to lunch at Flametree so I can't say I was enthusiastic about our change in plans.
DH and I both ordered the Shrimp Po-Boy (he had fries and I had apples) and Sage had chicken tenders while Claire opted for a PB and J sandwich. The Shrimp Po-Boy was surprisingly good with a ton of plump shrimp. One of our friends who was with us that day had the Vegetable Sub, and said it was delicious. They also have a huge toppings bar available with items for both hamburgers (grilled onions and mushrooms, lettuce, and tomatoes) and hot dogs (relishes). I had some of the relish with my Po-Boy and it was really good.
I had the Cheesecake in a Glass for dessert and it was light and refreshing.
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised and how much I enjoyed eating here, and it was a nice option on a rainy day.
Columbia Harbor House
Sunday we had more rain so we were all excited to try the new menu at Columbia Harbor House. We were meeting up with some friends here so there was about ten of us eating lunch that day.
I tried the salmon, couscous, and steamed broccoly platter. The salmon platter wasn't just good, it was amazing! This was definitely the best counter service meal of the week for me. It was seasoned well, cooked well, and just tasted plain awesome.
DH ordered the new lobster roll. He enjoyed it but it wasn't as good as he had hoped.
The apple crisp here is one of my favorite counter service desserts, and it was still as good as I remembered.
Pizza Planet
We met up with another group of friends for out day at Hollywood Studios so we had four adults and five children. Since the adults were outnumbered, we ended up at Pizza Planet.
I know this place gets panned a lot, but I actually enjoy the pizza here. For our family, we ordered three pizza meals which included personal size pizzas and a side salad. Three meals were more than enough for all four of us. I love their vegetable pizza.
They have a new dessert on the menu - a Cappuccino Chocolate Cupcake. Oh my word! This was amazing! We shared ours with the entire table because they were so rich and good. These cupcakes are definitely worth a visit to Pizza Planet by themselves!
Kringla Bakery
We still had our group of nine on Tuesday. The adults decided to snack our way around the World Showcase, but we stopped at Kringla to get lunch for the children because I had heard their sandwiches were very good.
Wow! I asked what came with a counter service meal and was told I could pick a sandwich, a salad (either fruit or green), a pastry and a drink. I only ordered one meal here because the portions were unbelievably huge.
I ordered the Norwegian Club, a fruit salad, and a sweet pretzel with almonds. We split the sandwich (which was huge!) into fourths so we could all try it, gave the girls the fruit salad, and split the pretzel. It was crazy how big that one meal was.
The sandwich was really good. The girl at the counter toasted it, and it was just perfect. The sweet almond pretzel was declicious.
I had never had lunch here, but it is now one of my most recommended places at Epcot. Definitely a winner! ;D
Pecos Bill
Some days everyone just wants a burger and today was that day for most of those in our group of nine so off to Pecos Bill's we went. At this point in the week, I am absolutely stuffed so I don't think I could have eaten a burger if I had tried.
I ordered the chicken wrap and DH had the Angus cheeseburger. The wrap was so big it made 1/3 pound burger look small. I ended up eating most of the middle like a salad. It was good, not great. DH loved his burger as always and everyone was happy to get their burger fix for the week.
I ordered yogurt for dessert and DH had the chocolate cake.
Tangeriene Cafe
We were doing a lot of snacking around World Showcase but did get a chicken schwarma platter here for all of us to snack on. The chicken platter comes with chicken, bread, couscous salad, tabboulleh, and hummus. It is an absolutely amazing lunch and one plate can easily feed a couple of people.
My girls absolutely love this type of food so they devoured the chicken, bread, and hummus while DH and I took care of the tabboulleh and couscous.
They also have baklava for dessert which is really good. I didn't eat any because I had other plans to snack, but my girls loved it.
The cast members here are always some of the nicest and most helpful we encounter during out vacation, and this trip was no exception.
Tortuga Tavern
We decided to try something different on our final day at the MK and decided to try the Tortuga Tavern. You can ordered burritos, taco salads, or nachos and they have a toppings bar available.
I had the chicken burrito with cilantro rice and black beans. I thought it was really good and had a lot of flavor. I would definitely eat here again. DH had the taco salad and he wasn't nearly as enthusiastic. He wished he had tried one of the burritos instead.
We also had a couple of breakfast meals at the hotel throughout the stay. We really didn't have any bad meals throughout the week, and we had a few (like the salmon at CHH) that were exceptional.
