Yep, it's that time....time to look at orders. We're transferring in March now instead of August, time for Bill to go back to sea duty (AKA deployment cycle). Unfortunately, at this moment in time, there aren't any billets available here in Gulfport (where the Atlantic Seabees are based). While it would be most cost effective for the Navy to keep us here and just transfer Bill into a battalion, right now, the options appear to be Port Hueneme, CA; Japan (but it's only a year--with an overseas move? no thank you!), Virginia Beach, or him to go unaccompanied to Diego Garcia for a year. We have one more month to see if something opens up here in Gulfport--next month we have to pick SOMETHING. So, my request for prayers is that you all please pray for a sea duty billet for Bill's rate to open up in a battalion here in Gulfport. Seabees deploy for anywhere from 6 months up to a year at a time. I would so prefer to be where I've started making friends, have a great church, know the town, and oh yeah, best of all--am only 90 minutes from family! Thanks!!!!!

Praying something opens up. What do you think you'll pick if it doesn't?

Prayers that you get your wish! If one doesn't open there, I hope you get your next best choice though!

Right now if things stay as they are, we're leaning towards the Diego Garcia---it would be a year but that's where he would be--and I would be happy that it's NOT Afghanistan. Then we'd be looking at orders again at the end of that because it needs to be 36 months of sea duty (combination of deployment and homeport). But at least we could stay where we are and he would just be gone for a year.

UPDATE---Bill and a guy currently in a battalion are trying to work a deal where they would trade duty spots. The good news is this would keep us in Gulfport. The bad news (IMO) is the next time this battalion deploys it would be to AFGHANISTAN! Anyway, pray for God's will. Secondary update, Bill has decided to pursue the Seaman to Admiral program, and as part of the application process he needs to take the ACT. We got his study guides and he just needs to start practicing to take it for the first time in October. Then I think he'll take it again in December to improve his score. (And again if it's necessary. LOL) The good news is, due to some changes in the specs, his odds seem even better than they were before -- and IMO they were pretty good to start with. Seaman to Admiral would have Bill pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering and then be an officer when he gets done. We would still collect active duty pay, BAH and BAS during this time. So please pray for this all to go smoothly and if it's God's will, for him to be selected for this next year. We have until next summer to get his application together. Thanks!!!

praying to keep you right where you are. I moved a lot when the kids were young, it's hard work with an infant. I did that twice.

Thank you. This week he gets to look at what's available, and verbally it doesn't sound good for staying in Gulfport. Pray that something opens up in Gulfport, and if it's God's will we go elsewhere, pray for me to get okay with it.

UPDATE!
Okay, initial update I WOULD have done was that the list was same as before, except it was down to Virginia, Bahrain, or Japan.
BUT!!!!!
Praising God!! Without bogging everyone down with a bunch of military acronyms...we got a bit of a reprieve. Bill's required hoop to jump through was approved the second time around. What this means is we don't have to look at orders til December. Hopefully much more will be open then. Thank you all for the prayers!!!!
