With my FIL expected to pass before the year is out, how soon do you think Last Rights can be given? My dad recieved his about two days before, With FIL we have no idea as to when. It could be soon or end of year.

I could be very wrong about this, but I believe last rites can be given when a person is sick and in danger of dying. There is no cut off. In fact, it can be given and the ill person could recover.
I did find this on the "Catholic Answers" page of the internet
Does a person have to be dying to receive this sacrament? No. The Catechism says, "The anointing of the sick is not a sacrament for those only who are at the point of death. Hence, as soon as anyone of the faithful begins to be in danger of death from sickness or old age, the fitting time for him to receive this sacrament has certainly already arrived" (CCC 1514).
I would say anytime at this point. And, if your FIL is able to participate as this point, it may be even better for him.
I am sorry that your family is going through this. God Bless.

Again, prayers to your family during this tough time Cheryl. I agree with Carol- now might be a good time to perform them. Members of my family have received the last rites at different times, but it doesn't have to be when you know they may pass away very soon.

Thanks Carol and Sydney. I thought he could but wasn't sure. Carol sadly although he is moving, yawning, and moaning he is not awake, not in a coma either. I think I will be calling either my Priest or his even tho he has been home bound for about 8 years.
