Our last trip in Nov. 2013 was a big important one, because it was Taylor's senior year and we knew planning trips around his college and work schedule, Jared's school and activities schedules, and Ron and I's work schedules, would get even more difficult, if not impossible. Then after finding out in early 2014 that Ron would be medically retired from the Air Force at the end of May, and Taylor's decision to go into the Air Force after graduation (which he surprised us with in April) all Disney planning was put on hold.
Since then Ron has been hired on with a local company which pays well and has even promoted him, but he is not satisfied with the job and lack of advancement opportunity and accomplishment. So he has decided to go back to school full time starting in January using his GI Bill! I am so proud and excited for him and I know that this will allow him to find another career that he enjoys even more than he enjoyed the Air Force.
Taylor signed up for the AF and entered the delayed enlistment program so that he would be guaranteed one of the jobs he wanted. It took almost a year (in which time he was working full time and taking a few college classes- because he never knew when he might be called up) but he got his number one pick and left for basic in May this year. We got to fly out to San Antonio and spend graduation weekend with him, and since like all of our family is in Texas they came to join us. He is currently in Mississippi in tech school through Jan. 2016. We are going to visit him in Nov. after Jared's marching band season is over.
Even though Taylor had said that he didn't mind if we went to Disney without him, I felt really bad about leaving him out- he's my Peter Pan and absolutely loves Disney! Then he found out he gets to come home for two weeks at Christmas time. I can't take off before Christmas (JCPenney rules) but I am taking the week after off. So he tossed out the idea of going with his girlfriend to Disney for four days. At first I thought it wasn't a good idea- too expensive, too crowded, etc. but Ron said "Who knows when he'll have the opportunity to go again? And they'll have fun even if they're standing in a two hour line waiting for a ride!" So Taylor and I planned it out and we were Skyping as I made the reservations with Disney. They are staying at POFQ using the military room discount, and even though they couldn't get the 4 day military salute tickets, they are getting the discount tickets from the base. He's got all the money saved up so they are good to go.
Now back to the rest of us. I've had the money saved up for a trip including Taylor, and we've been earning Disney dollars from the rewards card, so now a trip with three of us means spending even less and I can keep more in savings (for another trip, hehehe ). Looking at a calendar I figured that Ron has a week and a half break from school in March, and we like to go for a week, so then it was a matter of waiting for the military discount to be released for 2016. The week Jared is off for Spring break is actually blacked out. I was checking multiple times a day for weeks. I guess I was so busy with working late Friday, then a game, band competition Sat., work and Scouts on Sun. that it was Monday morning before I checked back to the Disney site about the discount. Woopee! It's available! Conveniently I am off this week, so I got right on the phone and booked the resort! Then it was off to look at park schedules, re-check menus, and figure a schedule and make adr's. Ron and I decided not to tell Jared yet. But I am super excited and glad that all the plans are made, so it's just a matter of waiting!
