DW and I have been to MNSSHP five or six times and I've found that most adults don't dress up. Those who do dress up usually have a "family theme" (parents and kids are all pirates or ghosts, etc) and some of the costumes are elaborate. DW and I just wear jeans and a Disney shirt and have as much fun as those who wear costumes. And we don't have to wash off the make up and face paint when we get back to our room.

I've seen a mix. Loads of themed family costumes, but occasionally adult groups with nary a child to be found dressed up. Our first trip to WDW as a married couple, Bill and I did Capt Jack and a pirate wench. Last time we went was this past trip. Kaity was Cinderella, and my mom, dad, and I were "Princess Protection Agency" agents.

Oh and I did want to add....we were at MK the night of a MNSSHP we weren't attending, but it was late enough that partygoers had started showing up. We were watching the castle stage show, and near us, this one teen/college age girl was dressed like Tinker Bell, and she totally played it up for Kaity, who thought it was the REAL Tinker Bell! Didn't break character for a second.

The one time we attended MNSSHP we saw everything from no Halloween attire whatsoever to elaborate costumes- like a family of 10 or so dressed as different characters from Star Wars- amazing! We just did simple costumes that were more like clothes to look like characters. Ron was Pacha from Emperor's New Groove- t-shirt, shorts, sandals, and a simple cape and hat I made. Taylor was Indiana Jones- a shirt and pants we got from Goodwill, along with a hat and whip set from a costume store, plus his boots. Jared was Raghetti from PotC- a shirt, pants, and jacket from Goodwill, shoes he already has, an eyepatch, and he even had this ball that looked like a glass eye. I was the ghost bride from Haunted Mansion- a simple costume I picket up that was just a dress, veil, and bouquet. We all felt dressed up but no uncomfortable and easily went on a bunch of rides. I had fun dressing up, but if you don't you certainly won't be alone. It is fun to see what other people come up with though.

I didn't dress up when I want. I was pregnant, and didn't feel like making the effort...lol! It's really a mixed bag so you won't stand out. I did enjoy people watching because some of the costumes were spectacular.
