I am pricing out a trip in late Sept. Not sure if we will be going or not but I am having fun thinking about it. The dates would be Sept. 19-30. So, eleven nights, all in value season. 2 adults and 6 kids ages 13, 11, 8, 6, 3 and 1. I priced 2 rooms at POP getting the 25% room only discount and then adding the regular dining plan and it came out to $4,032 I then priced 2 rooms at Pop at rack rate and assumed free dining (and upgrading to regular dining plan) , and the cost came to $2,588 Is that right? I thought I had heard somewhere that it was better or came out the same to take the room only discount. I know tickets would be in the cost but I wasn't counting them since I know we will use them in the future (we have AP's now). I also priced 2 rooms with the 25% off and no dining plan and it was $1,612 and assumed $1,000 in food costs (that would only be with about 2 sit downs). It would still be better to do the free dining if my calculations are correct. What do you think?

Those numbers do seem to be off somewhat. Does it include ticket prices? When I've had big discrepancies like that before it's usually because of the tickets...lol!

It doesn't. I realize we will have to buy tickets if we do free dining but I am not couting that in the price because we will just count the price of the tickets towards a future trip since we already have AP's. If that makes any sense. I am just trying to see if it is worth it to do free dining vs taking the room only discount.

Nice if you can. I priced out a trip using the 25% room only vs free dinning and it was way more to do the free dinning. Then again I'm getting tickets on base so a small savings there. Roomplus tickets come to $1977.32 Apart tickets are $644 room is $738 with a 25% discount cost $1382 OOP for food. $595.32 savings. WOn't spen over $500 for food.

Maybe what makes it better for you with free dining is the number of dining plans you need to "purchase" - I assume you buy 4 or 5 adult plans, right? Plus 2 or more for the kids, depending on the age breakdown. Maybe that is why? Just a thought. At the Pop, you would get your best "value" for the free dining.

You can use any tickets you buy at a later date, package or not. Just as long as you don't use any days on them.
After thinking about it for a bit it is mainly because the discount per room would be about $20 per night. The CS dining plan costs $34 per person so it would be worth the free dining for even just 1 adult.
Of course if you won't use or don't want the dinng plan it may not be worth it. For us it would be $172 a day for the counter service plan. So a savings of around $150 a night. That would be 4 adult CS plans and 3 kids. Then we would upgrade to the regular dining plan for $50 more and still save $100 a night.

did you check to see if you can get the free dining with the discount room? i asked since i called with a code i found online and they took almost $300 off my room/ticket package.....orig 7 nights 7 day base tickets $780.. so when i called to ask if i would be able to get the discount the CM i talked to that time said i would have to pay the difference of the price i paid and the rack rate....then would qualify for free dining... the one cm i talked to friday (when i called to make a payment) said it would depend on what kind of plan they offered...to just call back when the announcement is made... so now i am totally confused .. i thought as long as you stay on property and bought a park ticket you would qualify... if i have to pay for the dining plan, since it is just me going so far, i would pass on it and just POP... please let me know what you find out..

No, I'm positive you can onnly use one "promotion" at a time. So either free dining or the room discount. That is correct that if you wanted to switch to free dining you would then have to pay rack rate for the room.

so since i am going myself, and probably will do mostly counter service meals, aside from the few i already set, i am better off paying POP
Christina, since you have more than 2 people, it would probabl be better for you to get the free dining...dont you think?
