We did six table service meals including a three character meals. We enjoyed them all although some were outstanding. Here's a quick overview of where we ate and what we thought.
Tusker House Character Lunch - I will say that this was a really chaotic meal. The food was excellent (love their prime rib with horseradish!), but the character rotation was just a mess. We waited well after we finished eating just to see the characters. They kept getting pulled by the handlers to visit disgruntled guests which made for even more disgruntled guests. We will be back for dinner, but we will probably skip the character meals there.
'50s Primetime - We had a great waitress and good food here. I couldn't make up my mind so I ordered the sampler platter. It's a wimmer because I knew I loved the chicken, but now I also love the pot roast. Delicious! Tim had the chicken dinner and the girls had hot dogs and chicken nuggets. We also had a really fun waitress who got everyone in the room involved with her antics. Overall, it was another great meal at '50s!
Chef Mickey's - It had been a long time since we had been to Chef Mickey's, and the recent reviews haven't been stellar. I am happy to say we had a great experience. We were in the first seating so the characters made their way through the room quickly. We also thoroughly enjoyed the food their. They had a great selection including a great baked potato bar. I was in the mood for a baked potato so it really hit the spot along with their delcious prime rib. The girls enjoyed the Mickey ravioli, salad, and chicken legs. The dessert selecions were great, and the ice cream with all the toppings was a big hit.
Garden Grill - We all agreed hands down that this was our favoite meal of the trip. The food was really fresh and tasted great. I especially loved the roasted turkey, dressing, and mashed potatoes. The food is all you can eat so we ordered seconds of that. In addition to that, they also served fish with roasted vegetables and beef. The also bring roasted chicken drumsticks, macaroni and cheese, and sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries were AMAZING! I don't like sweet potatoes normally, but I could have eaten my weight in these. Our server was also excellent, and the character interaction was well-paced and fun. This is now on our must-do list!
'Ohana - I was pregnant with my oldest the last time I had dinner at 'Ohana so I was excited to try it again since I was still experiencing morning sickness and didn't get to try much of the meal. We enjoyed the food there, but DH and I both agree that we don't understand the hype surrounding this restaurant. It's good and we enjoyed it, bt it's not a place I will rush to make a reservation for. We both agree that we like the food and quiet atmosphere at Kona much better.
Rose and Crown - This is one place that DH has been wanting to try so we finally made a reservation this year. DH truly enjoyed his steak, but I found the meal to be disappointing. I started with tomato soup which was excellent, but the pork I ordered wasn't very good. It was covered in a not-so-tasty sauce and served with wilted spinach and potatoes. The spinach was tasteless. The potatoes were excellent. We both enjoyed our dessert tremendously. DH had the sticky toffee pudding and I had the Jaffa tarts. I loved them! We were seated on the patio about 5 minutes before a torrential rainstorm so the atmosphere was chaotic as the waiters tried to pull down the sides. Also, guests weren't leaving because of the rain so we found that service suffered quite a bit. All in all, we are glad we tried it, but it is not a restaurant we will try again any time soon.
