We stayed at Art of Animation from Sept. 29th to Oct. 4th. The Little Mermaid section had just opened so were were happy to be among the first guests to stay there.
Let me start by saying that the resort is adorable. It is definitely my new favoite Value resort although I have a feeling it will be hard to get a room there. We were lucky that we were able to take advantage of the free dining promotion.
When we arrived at 6am, it was still mostly dark outside so we were able to see the resort all lit up. I loved the artwork outside. The lobby was very bright and colorful altough for some reason it felt a bit cold and sterile to me which was strange. We checked in and got our tickets and toured the resort a bit before heading out the Animal Kingdom for early morning magic hours.
The Cars and Little Mermaid sections were definitely my favorites. The Nemo section was cute and well-themed, but it was all focused around the pool so it was pretty busy and noisy. It was fun to swim there, but I imagine it would be loud to stay there. The Lion King section was also cute, but I just like the theming for Cars and Little Mermaid better. Plus, those section also have quiet pools which were nice.
I had expected The Little Mermaid section to be loud since it has the most rooms, but it was really quiet. While the main pool was extremely busy and loud, the The Little Mermaid Pool usually had only a handful of guests and was a nice place to relax. The back of our building also faced the lake so it was a really pretty spot to stay.
We stayed in the Ursula section. The huge Ariel, King Triton, and Ursula sculptures were awesome. The landscaping around the buildings was new, but when it is filled in, I think it will enhance the feeling that you are "Under the Sea."
The room itself was small (same size as all Value resorts) and there was definitely a lack of storage space for clothing, but that was our only complaint. It really was a cute room, and the finishes seemed to be better quality than the other Value resorts. My girls loved it! When all the curtains were closed, it really felt like you were underwater. The best part was the shower - it was based on Ariel's cave with all her treasures. It was so cute!
We only had one meal at the food court, but we though the selections were great. I highly recommend the surf and surf burger and the honey almond gelato. Delicious! DH had the buffalo turkey sandwich and also really enjoyed it. Neither of us cared for the coleslaw.
Anyway, I highly recommend Art of Animation. I will post pictures in the next post!
